GK Kristen Drogsler, Christ the King
If there is a player the Royals have to thank for their most successful season in program history it’s their sophomore goalie. Drogsler made three saves, including one of the punch variety, in the final 3:50 to preserve CK’s win over Mary Louis in final after frustrating the Hilltoppers all season.
F Fabiana Rebecca, Christ the King
A knee injury limited her early, but once the speedy Rebecca got going, she was a huge factor in the Royals winning their first CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens title. The senior outran the defense to net the tying goal in the final after Mary Louis had just taken the lead. Rebecca had 16 goals and eight assists.
M Christina Viaggio, Christ the King
With Fabiana Rebecca slowed in the early season, Viaggio carried the load valiantly. The strong-footed senior scored 16 of her 23 goals in the first six games. Viaggio also dished out 10 assists, two of which came in the CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens final.

Girls Soccer Season According to the tablet 11/30/11 - 12:12 PM
B/Q Division AA 2011 Champs
Posted on 30 November 2011. by Jim Mancari
If you look up the word “resilience” in the dictionary, you’ll likely find a definition similar to the following: an ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change.
However, you may find a picture of the Christ the King R.H.S., Middle Village, girls’ varsity soccer team next to the word based of their breakout fall season.
The Royals won the school’s first-ever Brooklyn/Queens diocesan title and closed out the year No. 6 in the New York Post’s N.Y.C. final rankings released in mid-November. Playing in the AA division, Christ the King finished the year 11-3-2.
Sixth-year head coach John Fayad led the team, which was made up of only 13 girls. But it was the team’s resiliency that carried them throughout the season.
“Everyone knew what they were supposed to do, their position and what was required of them,” said Fayad. “We had a lot of chemistry on the team, and that was the reason for a good season.”
Fayad had high expectations coming into the season after the Royals lost to Bishop Kearney H.S., Bensonhurst, in last year’s Brooklyn/Queens semifinals.
Christ the King received strong performances from a variety of players. Senior forward Christina Viaggio led the team with 23 goals in 16 games and also finished second on the team with 10 assists. She returned from the off-season in prime condition, which Fayad noticed immediately.
“I knew she was going to be one of the top players in the city,” he said.
Fayad described senior forward Fabiana Rebecca as “the heart and soul of the team.” This year, she scored 16 goals, which was second on the team. She led the Royals in scoring each of her first three seasons.
While Viaggio and Rebecca supplied much of the offense, Christ the King’s strongest point was its defense. Sophomore fullback Destiny Marino was the team’s most reliable defender and a major reason the team only gave up three goals during the regular season.
Sophomore goaltender Kristen Drogsler was also a major part of the defense. She recorded 10 shutouts and an incredible 0.5 goals against average. Originally a midfielder, Drogsler became the team’s goalie last year through an experiment by Fayad when the team was without a goalie. That move has paid huge dividends.
The Royals only lost one game during the regular season – a 3-0 defeat at the hands of St. Joseph Hill, Staten Island, who wound up being ranked No. 1 in the Post’s poll.
The team had two defining wins during the regular season. The first was 5-0 against Fontbonne Hall Academy, Bay Ridge, on Sept. 14. The Royals had never beaten Fontbonne up until that game.
“That win gave the girls recognition, and they knew they could beat anybody,” Fayad said.
On Oct. 14, they clinched the division with a 2-0 victory over their rival, The Mary Louis Academy, Jamaica Estates.
Christ the King met Mary Louis again in the Brooklyn/Queens Championship on Nov. 6. Down 1-0 with less than 10 minutes to play, the Royals tied the game on a goal from Rebecca, set up nicely by Viaggio and sophomore midfielder Francesca Giglio.
In overtime, senior forward Luna Siracusa connected on the go-ahead goal. Drogsler and the defense shut down Mary Louis for the remainder of the game, giving Christ the King its first appearance in the CHSAA state tournament.
While the team was riding high from that victory, it received a gut check just two days before the tournament. Sophomore sweeper Cathy Lume was hit by a car while crossing the street after practice. Though she suffered no broken bones, she was badly bruised and could no longer play.
Lume, the team’s vocal leader, was right there next to Fayad on the sidelines as the Royals took on Nichols School, Buffalo, N.Y., in the state semifinals played at St. Anthony’s H.S., Huntington, L.I. Nichols – known as being one of the state’s strongest soccer programs – won the game 6-0.
The Royals lost the next day to St. Joseph Hill, 4-0, in the tournament consolation game.
Though the team was upset, Fayad reassured the players that they had accomplished something that no other Christ the King team had ever accomplished. The team’s original goal was to make the state tournament, and that’s exactly what they did.

CK tops Mary Louis to claim B/Q title 10/16/11 - 08:35 PM
Fabiana Rebecca made the score 2-0 in the second half
Before the season started, John Fayad felt this was going to be a special season at Christ the King. The last few seasons the Royals have been talented, but fell short in big games. That hasn’t been the case this year and certainly wasn’t against Mary Louis.
“We didn’t crack,” the CK coach said.
The Royals earned a 2-0 win over the host Hilltoppers in CHSAA intersectional girls soccer Friday at College Point Sports Park.
The victory earns Christ the King the Brooklyn/Queens regular-season title with a game remaining against Fontbonne Hall. A loss would leave the Royals and Mary Louis at worst tied in points, but CK (8-1-1, 4-0-1) won the head-to-head matchup after a 1-1 tie in the first meeting. TMLA, ranked No. 5 in The Post’s CHSAA/Private rankings, has a contest left with Bishop Kearney.

Sophomore Kristen Drogsler
Christina Viaggio scored in the 17th minute of the first half to give Christ the King the lead in the much anticiapted game against TMLA. Much of the game was played at midfield with the exception of a few TMLA chances that were easily saved by goalie Kristen Drogsler who had an amazing day in goal. TMLA tied the game in the 20th minute of the second half.

Big second half earns CK first-ever win over Fontbonne 9/15/11 - 07:31 AM
Stopper Naomi Lakhan
The Lady Royals Varsity Soccer Team won their third game after beating Fontebonne Hall Academy at Brennan Field with a score of 5-1. The game was won by a collective team effort starting from the goal keeper Kristen Drogsler to the amazing defensive line featuring Naomi Lakhan, Cathy Lume, Destiny Marino, and Stephanie Abruzzo. The midfielders had the toughest assignments for the game and they delivered a great performance both offensively and defensively. Catherine Pitelli showed her leadership qualities throughout the game and was able to bridge the transition between defense and offense. Francesca Giglio and Stephanie Rivera played pivotal roles in today's win especially on the offensive side. Christina Viaggio scored her fourth hat trick of the season, Luna Siracusa kept the defenders busy at the left forward position and Fabiana Rebecca scored her third goal of the seaon in the 48th minute. Freshmen Aimee Teitelbam and Stephanie Zdazenski had their first experiences with a highly competitive game and were ready for the challenge.

F Fabiana Rebecca, Christ the King
The junior helped lead the Royals to the CHSAA Queens division title. Rebecca used her speed and smarts to get behind defenses, score 18 goals and tally seven assists. She was a key factor in two of CK’s biggest wins of the season, scoring twice against Kearney and added a goal and an assist in a second meeting with Notre Dame.
M Julia Svitsky, Forest Hills
The senior is one of the city’s most versatile players and spent four seasons on the varsity. She was the engine to the Rangers’ offense, dishing out 17 assists and scoring four goals. Svitsky’s duties didn’t stop there. Coach Bob Sprance would routinely move her to sweeper to protect a lead for Forest Hills, which placed second in PSAL Queens A-V.

NYPOST.COM girls soccer reporter Joseph Staszewski breaks down Thursday’s CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens semifinals.
Schedule
3:30 p.m. -- Bishop Kearney vs. Christ the King @ Juniper Valley Park
4:30 p.m. -- Notre Dame vs. Fontbonne Hall @ Aviator Sports Complex
Bishop Kearney Tigers
Record: 9-4-0
Head coach: Charlie Candela
Player to watch: Emily Mason
Christ the King Royals
Record: 9-1-1
Head coach: John Fayad
Player to watch: Fabiana Rebecca
Outlook: Both teams are starving for a trip to the finals. Kearney won the title two seasons ago only to lose in overtime in last year’s semifinals against Notre Dame. The Royals won their first Queens/Manhattan division title and would like nothing more than to further their success by playing for the league crown.
Damion Reid
Christ the King's Christina Viaggio will try to kick the Royals to the CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens final.
Christ the King won the teams’ only meeting 3-1 all the way back on Oct. 9, the day of Kearney’s walk-a-thon in the morning, so expect the Tigers to have fresher legs. No team may have matured more than the Royals, who struggled to finish in big games early. The trio of Ashley Raaf, Christina Viaggo and Fabiana Rebecca, who scored twice against Kearney, gives them one of the best goal scoring units in the city. Freshman midfielder Francesca Giglio has been a playmaker all season and goalie Kristen Drogsler can be a game changer.
The Tigers are one of the city’s more methodical offensive teams. Coach Charlie Candela has a team filled will skilled players. Things need to run through midfielders Shannon Fahy and Emily Mason. Freshman forward Darian Raccgulia will need to finish around the net. Kearney can’t get into a fast-paced shootout with CK; sweeper Danielle Farragher can only do so much.

Daily News Article CK 3-0 Win over Notre Dame 10/22/10 - 11:43 AM
Naomi Lakhan scores CK's third goal with a header
Christ the King coach John Fayad said his Royals had a history of creating chances and not scoring against Notre Dame. So, Fayad huddled his players together in a film session on Tuesday to strategize.
That team meeting paid dividends Wednesday, as Christ the King cruised to a 3-0 victory over Notre Dame at Juniper Valley Park in Middle Village.
"With the exception of two plays, everything I gave them they did," said Fayad, whose Royals improved to 7-1-1 in the CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens division. "They did everything I asked for."
CK started its scoring early, when junior Ashley Raaf kicked in a goal near the right corner to give the Royals a 1-0 lead 18 minutes into the match.
"The first goal we produced, we practiced," Fayad said. "It was a throw-in, return to Ashley and kick it in. We practiced that, it wasn't a fluke."
Added Raaf: "I kicked it and it cruised right over (the goalkeeper's head)."
That score set the tone for the afternoon, as Raaf's teammates Fabiana Rebecca and Naomi Lakhan followed with goals of their own in the 63rd and 72nd minutes of play, respectively, to ice the match.
Lakhan's goal came on a header from point blank range, seconds after CK's offense applied the pressure with three straight shots on goal.
Fayad believes the Royals have been building toward this season's success for over two years.
"This team - I got most of these girls as freshman, (and) they're all juniors now," said the fourth-year coach. "We've worked hard. This is not by chance. My first year I started, we got our butt kicked by everybody. I knew I didn't want that to happen again."
Notre Dame coach Mike Pfeffer knew it was going to be a long afternoon after Raaf's goal and thought the Royals did an excellent job marking his All-City senior star Emma Pichl - who was celebrating her 17th birthday on Wednesday - for a full 80 minutes.
He thought his Dragons were just outclassed.
"It was a poor performance," said Pfeffer, whose team slipped to 5-2-1, right behind CK in the Queens/Manhattan division of the Brooklyn/Queens conference. "They're just a better team. They have more travel team players, they're faster, better athletes."
Still, Pfeffer feels good about his team's heading into the playoffs.
"I think we're going to prevail in the playoffs," he added. "I think we're going to have a couple of upsets."

Lady Royals a Step Closer to Queens CHSAA Title 10/21/10 - 07:05 AM

Call it Ashley Raaf unleashed.
The junior forward is in her first season at Christ the King, coming there after Stella Maris closed last year. Royals coach John Fayad said he felt he was holding her back early on by asking her to be more precise and keeping her shots instead of just ripping into them like she was used to with the Flippers. It left her thinking about every attempt too much.
“I’m not really used to just kicking it low,” Raaf said. “I kind of just fire it at the goalie, like one of the corners.”
Call her performance a vintage one in Christ the King’s most important game to date. She scored a goal and dished out assists on corner kicks in a 3-0 win over rival Notre Dame in CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens girls soccer Wednesday at Juniper Valley Park. It puts CK (7-1-1) ahead of the Dragons in the Manhattan/Queens division standings with two games to play.

“He told me to just blast it today,” Raaf said. “I guess it worked.”
Raaf was the main reason why. She got her throw-in passed back to her 30 yards out near the right sideline in the 18th minute and let loose a blast that sailed over the head of Dragons goalkeeper Jessica Pfeffer and in to the top right corner. It was a play the Royals had practiced. The CK lead stayed 1-0 at the break, causing Notre Dame, the defending division champ, to move Pfeffer from the goal to the field.
“This is Ashley’s best game that she has played for Christ the King," Fayad said.
While she found the back of the net, teammate Fabiana Rebecca was struggling to do so, failing to convert on two one-on-one chances that could have broken open the game in the first half. The junior forward felt she was putting too much pressure on herself. When Raaf’s corner kick sailed across the box to her she took time to settle it and score to the near post in the 63rd minute.
Naomi Lakhan headed in another Raaf corner kick to make it 3-0 in the 72nd minute. CK played without midfielder Guadalupe Quiroz, who is serving a school suspension according to Fayad.
“When I concentrate more I make it in,” Rebecca said. “I’m more focused. I put it in my head.”
But Notre Dame (5-2-1) was unable to put in a goal. CK had Jessica Hensel marking star Emma Pichel all over the field, even when she was on defense. The senior scored both of her team’s goals during a 2-2 tie in the team’s first meeting. The Dragons were forced to take 20- to 25-yard blasts that mostly sailed high or wide. They had three straight early in the second half, prior to Rebecca’s goal, which concluded with Pichl missing wide from the top of the box in the 49th minute.
“We knew we were a better team than Notre Dame,” Fayad said. “For some reason they play us well. They are well coached, but we outplayed them today.”
The addition of Raaf and the maturation of her new teammates are a big reason why. She said it has been a seamless transition to the Middle Village school. Fayad taking on her sister Michelle, her former coach at Stella Maris, as his assistant has only made things easier.
“I lucked out with the girls on the team,” Raaf said. “They motivate me to play hard.”
Exactly like the way she needs to shoot the ball.

The 2010 team has managed to beat Bishop Kearney on 10/8/2010 at Brennan Field for the first time in school history en route to a 5-0-1 record, which is another first. The game started with pressure applied by CK that led to many chanes for forwards Ashley Raaf and Fabiana Rebecca in the 4th, 8th, 11th, and 17th minute. CK eventually scored on a couter attack when Rebecca received a lobed ball from right midfielder Catherine Pitelli in the 19th minute. Many other chances followed for CK and were squandered wide or high above the goal posts. The second half was faster paced and both teams were able to create chances and eventually Bishop Kearney was able to level he score in the 51st minute after a scramble inside the Royal's penalty box. The Royals responded quickly when Christina Viaggio intercepted the ball in midfield and sent it to freshman Francesca Giglio who dribbled past the right fullback and scored in the 57th minute of the game. CK continued to press forward and was able to score again in the 60th minute after a give and go between Guadalupe Quiroz and Rebecca who in turn scored her second goal of the game. The rest of the game was mostly played in midfield and led to a few other CK chances that did not materialize.

Lady Royals Win Under Heavy Rain 10/4/10 - 12:14 PM
The CK Royals Girls Varsity Team won its third game of the season under heavy rain at Brennan Field against Bishop Ford. The first half was a very sloppy one with most of the play at midfield and many slippery balls. CK took 13 shots in the first half, many of which were above the goal post and the rest were wide. The visitors scored in the 25th minute of the game after a high shot from their center midfielder. The second half was a totally different one for the Royasl. After adjusting to the weather conditions and keeping the ball low to the ground CK was able to score early. Ashley Raaf opened the scoring in the 9th minute assisted by Francesca Giglio. Fabiana Rebecca scored CK's second goal after a great give and go with right midfielder Catherine Pitelli in the 16th minute. Raaf then added her fourth goal of the year from a direct corner from the left side of the field in the 19th minute. CK created ample opportunities in the second half and the post denied Giglio from scoring her second goal of the year twice. The fourth goal was scored by Christina Viaggio in the 39th minute after a great sequence of paasing between Luna Siracusa, Giglio and herself.
The Lady Royals hold a record of 3-0-1 and will meet St. Saviour on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 PM at Kaiser Park in Brooklyn.

CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens girls soccer preview 2010 Season 9/13/10 - 10:00 AM
Senior Left Fullback Jessica Hensel
John Fayad has watched Ashley Raaf from the other part of the sideline. The junior played the last two seasons against his Christ the King club for Stella Maris as one of its primary goal scorers. After the Rockaway Park school closed last June, Raaf chose to join the Royals and form one of CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens most dangerous goal scoring trio.
“Ashley is really accomplished,” Fayad said. “She scored a lot of goals last year and it’s nice to have her on the same side as Fabiana [Rebecca] and Christina [Viaggio]. Our offense is going to be very special.”
CK outscored opponents 51-17 last year and Fayad thinks he can best that margin with this group. All three will play forward, making it hard for defenses to key on any one. Raaf and Rebecca have excellent foot skills and speed and Viaggio has a nose for the goal and an accurate shot.
The Royals will miss center midfielder Cindy Rodriguez, but Fayad still calls that portion of the field his core with junior Catherine Pitelli and talented freshman Francesca Giglio. Senior sweeper Jessica Hensel has already become more of a vocal leader and will need to be with inexperience around her.
Fayad is high on freshman sweeper Cathy Lume. The goalkeeper’s job is senior Ericka Petshauer’s to lose, but freshman Kristen Drogsler has been pushing for time.
Christ the King thought last season was going to be its final one in Brooklyn/Queens, ending with a 1-0 loss to eventual champion Fontbonne Hall. But the school's entry into CHSAA Nassau/Suffolk was postponed by the league's principals, according to athletic director Bob Mackey. So the Royals have set their sights back on a Queens/Manhattan division title and Brooklyn/Queens crown.
“The team is going to be a special team,” Fayad said. “I am so looking forward to the season. They look fantastic in practice. I’m hoping that this year will be our year.”

All Queens Soccer Girls Selection 12/2/09 - 02:13 PM
Sophomore Forward Fabiana Rebecca
Congradulations to Fabiana Rebecca for making The All Queens Soccer Honors as one of the two best forwards in the Queens for the 2009 school year. Also congradulations to Cindy Rodriguez for making honorable mention at the midfield position and making this list for the second year. Non of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of all the players on the team and all the sacrifices that they've shown throughout the workouts and games.
The Post's All-Queens girls soccer honors

M Kathryn Edwards, Archbishop Molloy
The senior was the workhorse for the Stanners. She would win balls at midfield, both in the air and on the ground. Her toughness was never doubted. Edwards, an excellent passer, was usually the one starting the attack and was an opportunist scorer.
M Ebelyse Guaranda, Cardozo
Guaranda was the player Tottenville coach George Kaplan was most impressed with because of her speed, toughness and ability to control the game after the quarterfinal loss. The junior scored 15 goals and tallied 10 assists.
M Gena Koutsounadis Francis Lewis
F Molloy's Kyra Meli is The Post's All-Queens girls soccer Player of the Year.
Even as a sophomore she was the Patriots quiet leader. She scored 12 goals and dished out nine assists, which included having a hand in four of the Patriots seven playoff goals. Koutsounadis did all that as the focus of the team’s defense and helped her squad reach the PSAL A quarterfinals.
M Melissa Lijo, Flushing
Blink and you might miss her. Lijo is extremely fast with or without the ball and can create goals out of nowhere. The sophomore tallied a remarkable 35 goals and 25 assists, leading Flushing to its second straight undefeated PSAL Class B title.
M Creshana Jones, Benjamin Cardozo
It’s hard to find someone with a better breakout season than Jones. The junior was moved from sweeper to midfield and will likely not be moving back, not after posting 21 goals and seven assists, and helping 'Dozo reach the PSAL quarterfinals. Jones is super athletic in the air and with the ball in space, and uncatchable if she breaks free.
M Deirdre Ray, Mary Louis
Coach Nicole Madtes said when the year started the talented sophomore would be the face of Mary Louis soccer for years to come. Ray didn’t disappoint. Good things always seemed to happen then the ball was at her feet. Her accurate shot and excellent foot skills caused the need for multiple defenders to mark her.
M Julia Svitsky, Forest Hills
Forest Hill coach Bob Sprance wasn’t shy about telling the people the importance of Svitsky to his inexperienced team. The junior scored just four goals, but dished out 15 assists, good for third in the PSAL. She also controlled play at midfield for a team that went 9-2 in Queens A-V.
F Fabianna Rebecca, Christ the King
The athletic sophomore was the Royals leading scorer this season with 15 goals and eight assists. Her accurate shot and breakaway speed will be paramount when the Royals more to the Nassau/Suffolk division next season.
D Francesca Rossi, St. Francis Prep
Rossi solidifying the backline was one of the major reasons St. Francis Prep became more competitive in the nightmarish CHSAA Nassau/Suffolk division. Coach John Jenkins moved the senior solely to defense after dabbling with her up front early on. Her strength and quickness to the ball made her a frustration to opposing offenses.
Honorable Mention
F Liz Cholakis, Stella Maris
GK Amanda Coll, Cardozo
F Andrea Jimenez, Flushing
D Katarzyna Kasza, Long Island City
D Sara Lijo, Flushing
M Bridgette McCalla, Thomas Edison
D Deirdre Quinlan, Archbishop Molloy
F Ashley Raaf, Stella Maris
M Cindy Rodriguez, Christ the King
M Victoria Zacharuk, Mary Louis
GK Chelsea Wynne Archbishop Molloy

Royals Cruise to the Semi Finals 11/3/09 - 08:08 PM
Player of the game Luna Siracusa
The Lady Royals Women Varsity Soccer Team won their quarter final game by a score of 7-0 at Brennan Field today. The team came prepared and ready for the challenge and that showed immediately when Christina Viaggio scored the games first goal in the third minute of the game after receiving a pass inside the box from Guadalupe Quiroz. Quiroz in turn scored five minutes later after receiving a long throw in pass from Stephanie Pidalla. The third goal came in the 30th minute of the game on a solo effort from Fabiana Rebecca. The Royals eventually ended the first half with a fourth goal after three combination passes between Quiroz, Rebecca, and Viaggio that resulted in Quiroz's second goal of the game. Junior Ciera Sessa had an excellent game at midfield and was able to help the CK defenders when St. Saviour applied pressure. Luna Siracusa started the second half in a hurry and was able to score after receiving a give a go pass from midfield from Viaggio in the 42nd minute. Siracusa then added her second goal of the game after sprinting past the Saviour defenders and finishing with a low angled kick to the right of the goalie. The final score came in the 77th minute by Sessa after a great effort on a rebound inside the 18 yard box. The Royals next game is on Thursday November 5th at Dyker Park in Brooklyn vs. Fonte Bonne.

CK Women Varsity Soccer Clinches Second Place After 3-0 win over St. John's Prep. 10/31/09 - 08:42 PM
The 2009 CK Royals Women Varsity Soccer Team
The Christ the King Royals Women Varsity Soccer Team clinched the second place in the BQGCHSAA League. This gave the Royals home field advantage for the quarter finals against St. Savior from Brooklyn. CK needed to win this game in order to knock Stella Maris off second place and they got it done. The actual first half of the game saw the Royals create five chances inside the 18 yard box that were wasted. The eventual first goal of the game came in the 21st minute of the game when Cindy Rodriguez sent a lob pass to fellow senior Susan Conte who was able to score from about six yards out. Forward Luna Siracusa was able to use her speed to create a final chance before the half ended, but wasn't able to finish the play with a goal. In the second half of the game the St. John's team added pressure on the CK defenders, who in turn answered with various saves most notably a sliding tackle from captain Jessica Hensel and a header from Sadira Andujar. Coach John Fayad then changed the formation to a 4-4-2 diamond and that eventually caused the team to move the ball better and create many chances that resulted in two more goals. Guadalupe Quiroz scored the second goal after receiving a long throw in from Stephanie Pidalla inside the 18 yard box. Quiroz scored a second goal after a give and go play with Fabiana Rebecca and a strong shot to finish the game in the 78th minute. The Royals will host St. Savior at Brennan Field in Middle Village on Tuesday November 3rd starting at 3:30 PM.

Royals Earn Key Win 10/27/09 - 10:23 AM
Royals earn key win over Stella Maris
Christ the King takes advantage of early breaks, in position to claim No. 2 spot in Queens division
By JOSEPH STASZEWSKI

Luck didn’t seem to be on Christ the King’s side early, especially from close range. The Royals saw two point-blank shots gobbled up by Stella Maris keeper Cait Mannes and five corner kicks turn into nothing. Royals coach John Fayad called it the story of his season.
“Create, create and most of the time we miss,” he said.
One bounce of the ball changed that.
Center midfielder Cindy Rodriguez kicked a ball into the box from 35 yards. It bounced once and sailed over the head of Mannes for the game’s first goal in the 27th minute. Fabiana Rebecca, who said she knew things would go her team's way after Rodriguez’s goal, scored her first of two goals and the eventual winner off a corner that deflected off a Stella Maris defender.
“It was just dumb luck,” Rodriguez said of her score. “I don’t know, pure instinct.”
The Royals grabbed the early advantage and eventually put Stella Maris away, 6-1, in CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens girls soccer at Juniper Valley Park Monday.
The win gives Christ the King a chance to pass the Flippers for second place in the Queens division in the season’s final week. CK (7-5) has a game with St. John’s Prep left and Stella Maris (7-3-1) needs to play Fontbonne and Kearney.
Stella Maris won the first meeting, 2-1, on Sept. 28. Both teams will make the playoffs, which begin next Tuesday. It will be both teams' final season in the league. Christ the King will play in the CHSAA Nassau/Suffolk 'A' division and Stella Maris will not have a team because the school is closing due to low enrollment.
“They had the place we wanted and we had to fight for it,” Rodriguez said
Stella did pull within 3-1 on a Regina Paskoff goal. The freshman found herself open at the top of the box and drilled a shot to the top right corner from 25 yards in the 51st minute. The Royals got two scores from Guadalupe Quiroz and a goal and an assist from Christina Viaggio.
“I told them today I need them to play loose,” Fayad said. “When I put pressure on them they have underachieved.”
Christ the King’s defense played back trying to contain the speed and skill of Stella Maris stars Liz Cholakis and Ashley Raaf. The Royals kept them under wraps for the majority of the game and put continuous pressure on the Flippers' defense, especially in the first half.
“As long as our defense keeps communicating like that,” Rebecca said, then we won’t have a problem.”

CK On Pace For Home Field Advantage 10/26/09 - 08:49 PM
Sophomore Stephanie Abruzzo
Getting a win was a must for the Christ the King Women Varsity Team today. CK played Stella Maris at Brennan Field at 4;00 PM in a clash for second place in the CHSAA Queens Division. The game started with both team exchanging possessions at midfield. CK broke the tie in the 9th minute when Senior Cindy Rodriguez kicked the all from a rebound about 22 yards out. Fabiana Rebecca then added a goal of her own from a direct corner kick to end the half with a 2-0 lead for CK. In the second half substitute freshman Guadalupe Quiroz scored in the 14th mionute after a give and go with Rebecca. Stella then made the score 3-1 after scoring on a lob past the jumping senior goalie Sarah Spellman. Stella kept the pressure on after the goal, but Spellman was able to stop all the chances created with the help of solid defensive plays. Rebecca then added her 15th goal of the season after receiving a pass from Christina Viaggio at midfield, sprinted past the last defender, and finished with a goal to the goalie's far post. Viaggio added another goal for CK after a give and go with Rebecca in the 35th minute of the second half. Quiroz concluded the scoring with a solo effort in the 38th minute to end the game with a 6-1 victory. The player of the game was Stephanie Abruzzo who managed to neutralize Ashley Raaf, Stella top goal scorer, throughout the game.

Royals Win 3-0 10/14/09 - 08:49 PM
Susan Conte
The CK Women Varsity Team played against St. Agnes at Little Bay Park in Bayside and won the game by a score of 3-0. The field conditions were terrible and prevented both teams from proper passing. CK controlled most of the first half and squandered many chances inside the penalty box. Ciera Sessa and Krystal Guzman missed two wide open shots from inside the 18 yard box as well. Guadaliupe Quiroz scored CK's first goal from a free kick from the right flank side in the 19th minute. The second half was similar to the first one with CK missing many chances until forward Fabiana Rebecca scored in the 51st minute assisted by Quiroz. The last goal of the game was started by Stephanie Abruzzo after she passed the ball between two defenders to Rebecca who in turn dribbled past two players and kicked a ball that got deflected from the goalies hand and Christina Viaggio punched it in the net at the 59th minute of the game. CK's midfielders controlled the game methodically led by senior Susan Conte.
CK's next game is against division rival Notre Dame on Wednesday October 21st at Brennan Field in Middle Village at 4;00 PM.

The CK Defensers are the reason for the 22 goal differential 10/6/09 - 05:23 PM
CK Defenders from left to right: Andrea Pintado, Sadira Andujar, Noami Lakhan, and Jessica Hensel
The CK defenders have been a big reason why the CK Women's Varsity Soccer Team has a +22 goal differential in the 2009 season. CK has scored 30 total goals in 8 games and only allowed 8 goals this season thanks to the team's defenders. Senior Sadira Andujar, Junior Andrea Pintado, Junior Jessica Hensel, Sophomore Naomi Lakhan, Sophomore Emanuela Concordia, and Senior Stephanie Pidalla have made sure that opposing offenses are only held to an average of 1 goal per game this season. Andujar has been the silent leader among the bunch and shows great determination and atheletic ability during every game. recent communication drills at the practice field is the reason for this defensive improvement this year as well as the girls' ability to learn and improve evident in the turnaround of Pintado's play this season.

CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens girls soccer preview
Christ the King hopes to challenge lead powers Kearney and Fontbonne, Bishop Ford and Notre Dame among league's best

The Christ the King girls soccer team is in its final season in CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens. The Royals, who have been one of the league’s top teams, will make the move next year to Nassau/Suffolk, where Queens rivals St. Francis Prep, Mary Louis and Archbishop Molloy play.
They have a few things they would like to accomplish before they go. Christ the King fell to Fontbonne Hall in the semifinals last year.
“Our first goal this year is to win our [Queens/Manhattan] division,” fourthyear CK coach John Fayad said. “Our next goal is definitely to challenge Kearney and Fontbonne.
His team lost just two seniors and returns a talented group of sophomores. The Royals have the potential for a superb offense with sophomore Fabiana Rebecca, a 15-goal scorer, back. She will have talented players around her in senior midfielder Cindy Rodriguez, senior Forest Hills transfer Nazarine Caraccioli and sophomore forward Christina Viaggio.
“She is more of an attacking center midfielder,” Fayad said of Rodriguez. “She has the strongest foot on the team.”
Senior stopper Stephanie Pidalla and sophomore sweeper Naiomi Lakhan, who started last season, lead the defense along with junior Jessica Hensel. Fayad converted midfielder Sarah Spellman into the team’s goalkeeper.

Royals Women Varsity Soccer Win Big 9-0 9/18/09 - 09:34 PM

The Christ the King Royals Women Varsity Soccer Team competed against St. Agnes High School today at 4:00 PM at Brennan Field in Middle Village to start off the 2009 soccer season. Rebecca scored her second goal through a personal effort five minutes later. Caraccioli paid Viaggio back by assisting her with her first goal of the season from a corner kick in the 28th minute. Caraccioli then got her second goal of the game through a great shot from 20 yards out.
With multiple substitutions in the second half, the royals kept their momentum by scoring four additional goals. Caraccioli earned her hat trick after scoring in the 43rd minute unassisted. Forward sophomore, Luna Siracusa, scored from inside eight yards after receiving an assist from junior Ciera Sessa in the 48th minute. Krystal Guzman and Stephanie Abruzzo wrapped up the game with two more goals in the 56th and 60th minutes. The Lady Royals defense (Jessica Hensel, Stephanie Pidalla, Naomi Lankhan, Emanuela Concordia, Sadira Andujar and Andrea Pintado) managed to keep the St. Agnes forwards in check throughout the game giving senior goalie Sarah Spellman her first clean sheet of the year.

Cindy Rodriguez made the All-City '08: CHSAA Girls Soccer 9/12/09 - 05:16 PM
Cindy Rodriguez
BY MITCH ABRAMSON, IAN BEGLEY, MARK LELINWALLA AND EBENEZER SAMUEL DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITERS
Tuesday, December 16th 2008, 3:46 PM
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Julie Vigliotti, Notre Dame Academy, Sr. Any time there was a play to be made, Vigliotti was there to make it. The senior midfielder shouldered the offensive load, pacing the Gators with 18 goals.
ALL-CITY
F Taylor Addison, Spellman, Fr. Considering Addison netted 36 goals as a freshman, her prospects as a sophomore should be downright scary.
D Alyssa Grecco, Notre Dame Academy, Sr. An ultra-stingy defender, Greco was a staple vocal leader, giving the Gators their bite all season.
F Caroline Jastremski, Notre Dame Academy, Sr. Totaled 11 goals and nine assists before a torn ACL in the second-to-last regular season game put her out of commission for the remainder of the year. Still, Jastremski wound up scoring the game-winning goal in that game.
M Kelsey Laro, St. Joseph by-the-Sea, Jr. Asked to mark Player of The Year Julie Vigliotti, when St. Joseph challenged Notre Dame for the Archdiocesan crown, the swift Laro more than held her own.
D Emma Pichl, Notre Dame School, Soph. Netted 28 goals and helped lead the Gators to an 11-3-1 record as a sophomore this season, all while playing sweeper. That means her defense led to instant offense.
M Natalie Rivera, Spellman, Sr. Providing constant leadership, Rivera’s six goals and 12 assists were a huge part of Spellman’s 12-0-2 finish. The senior midfielder also helped groom freshman forward Taylor Addison.
M Cindy Rodriguez, Christ the King, Jr. With eight goals and 15 assists, Rodriguez was the key in Christ the King’s competitive 10-4-1 season. Quite simply, the team was built around her. F Briana Rubilotta, St. Joseph by-the-Sea, Sr. When four of her teammates and fellow seniors were injured in a car accident five days before the Archdiocesan championship game against Notre Dame Academy, Rubilotta bravely led her team on the field. The forward scored eight goals and was expert at reading defenses.
F Colleen Ryan, Fontbonne Hall, Soph. Without the havoc Ryan wreaked against opposing defenses, the Bonnies wouldn’t have been able to finish with a 14-0 regular-season record.
D Daniela Semilia, Bishop Kearney, Jr. The Tigers dropped both regular-season meetings against the archrival Fontbonne, but Semilia made the adjustments necessary to fuel Kearney to an upset win over the Bonnies in the Brooklyn/Queens championship game.
F Samantha Wysokowski, St. Joseph’s Hill, Soph. Displayed a knack for scoring big goals in big games.
HONORABLE MENTION: Alyssa Azzinaro, St. John Villa, Soph,; Kimberly Biolsi, Spellman, Sr.; Brittney Dombrowski, Molloy, Sr.; Victoria Gurrieri, Notre Dame Academy, Jr.; Katie Henderson, Fontbonne Hall, Soph.; Kristina Iudica, Bishop Kearney, Sr.; Jackie Kelly, St. John’s Prep, Sr.; Kelly McArdle, St. Francis Prep, Sr.; Alexis Sassone, Preston, Jr.

Ridgewood Times Article October 9, 2008 9/12/09 - 04:41 PM
www.timesnewsweekly.com
On Wednesday, Oct. 1, Christ the King traveled to Parade Grounds Field and defeated Bishop Ford by a 4-1 score.
The home team, Bishop Ford, started the game with a very quick goal that came in the first minute of the game. The goal was headed in after a nice cross from the right winger.
Christ the King then created a few chances, including a wide open shot from Cindy Rodriguez that was eventually saved by the Bishop Ford goalie. The first CK goal was scored by forward Nicole Capranzano on a solo effort in the 13th minute. Many chances were created right afterwards, including a one-on-one effort by Fabiana Rebecca that was kicked wide right of the keeper.
Rebecca, however, made up for the lost chance by scoring CK's second goal in the 30th minute after she reeceived the ball from fellow freshman Christina Viaggio.
The second half started with ball exchanges around midfield until Capranzano scored her second goal in the 47th minute assisted by Stephanie Pidala.

Viaggio added a second goal in the 37th minute and CK carried the 3-0 lead into halftime. After the break, Viaggio completed the hat trick from the penalty spot and then set up captain Kristen Sapienza for the Royals’ final goal in the 66th minute.
